How is it detected?
It’s up to your doctor to find where the blood clot is using screening tests like Doppler, ultrasound, MRI, CT scan, or others. The D-dimer test is a valuable tool for detecting abnormal blood clotting activity, aiding in the diagnosis of various thrombotic conditions.
What does it mean?
A positive or elevated D-dimer result suggests significant clot formation and breakdown in the body but does not specify the location or cause. Further diagnostic imaging tests are often required to confirm the presence and location of a clot. Elevated D-dimer levels have also been found in vaccinated COVID-19 patients.
